Bulanov's ancestors left a substantial mark in the history of Russia. For instance, General Peter Nikivorovich Ivashev was a fellow-soldier with A.Suvorov, took part in the battle of Borodino; Vasily Ivanovich Ivashev - Decembrist, grandmother Maria Vasilevna Trubnikova - the organizer and leader of the feminist movement in Russia in the second half of the 19th century; parents Anatolij Petrovich Bulanov and Olga Konstantinovna Bulanova - active Populists.
1898. Was born in Nizhny Novgorod.
1906. The family moved to St. Petersburg.
1910. His parents sent him to Germany, Italy and Switzerland for treatment.
1917. He graduated from the doctor's N.P.Shepovalnikov private school and enrolled into the law faculty at the University of Petrograd.
1918. Enrolled to study at the Pegoskhum - Petrograd State Integrated Artistic Workshops.
1920 - 1922. Sent by ROSTA to work in Nikolaev, Kherson, Odessa. Published his first posters.
1922. Returned to Petrograd.
1923. Head of Artistic Department at the magazine "The life of Art"
1924-1926. actively works as a book and magazine illustrator.
1927-1932. Was creating posters. Mainly advertising posters but also political as ordered by International Aid Organisation to Revolutionary.
June 1941. Arrested.
May 1942. Died in a prison hospital.
